#8 Supporting Survivors with Conor Twyford
Conor Twyford is the new General Manager of Wellington Sexual Abuse HELP. She has a campaign and communications background and has worked for many years in the union movement and community organising. She's new to the sexual violence sector but not new to the debate around gender violence, inequality and the need to turn that around.
"This election year I would like to see sexual violence and gender and sexuality issues more generally at the front and centre of the political debate. It's time survivors of sexual violence got the support they need - and the sector the funding it needs. Wouldn't it be great if we could look back and say this was the year we finally saw some justice for survivors. Bring it on!"
I had a feeling Conor and I had met before but I'm not sure where - that's blimmin' Wellington for you. It was so great finding out all about Conor's past exploits and adventures, including fishing, art school, uni, VSA work, and living in a lot of different places. I'm really interested to see how her proposed campaign to talk about the state of sexual violence stats in NZ prior to the budget - watch out for that!
