#3 Comic Art with Jem Yoshioka

The Guest

Jem Yoshioka is an illustrator and comic artist living in Wellington, New Zealand. Deftly weaving words and pictures together, Jem’s comics tell evocative and emotional stories with themes of belonging, place, and heritage. Jem’s recent work explores the fluidity of her mixed race identity, documenting the challenges, delights and frustrations of being from more than one place at once. Jem has been published in Three Words - the New Zealand Women’s comics anthology and Square Planet Comics and has twice won first place in the Chromacon New Zealand Indie Arts Festival Comic Awards.

The Chat

Jem brought me candy! It was delicious. Explicit tag is for swears. Maybe one day I'll learn to bleep them out. And then I can also bleep out the number of times I say 'That's interesting!' because christ Jen, give it a rest. Anyway. Jem is lovely, her art is beautiful, have a listen.
